LGN’s friend GamingOnLinux aka GOL has opened a new GNU/Linux Gaming Forum which is something that we never had before.
Sure, almost every GNU/Linux distribution forum has a gaming section, but it’s usually more about gaming problems that happen to users with that specific distro and rarely about news or general gaming discussion.
We also have the very good FreeGameDev Forums, but it’s goals are different – it’s only for free software and it’s oriented towards the developers and FOSS gaming projects.

So I’m really hoping that the new general gaming forum will become a success, to “help you register and be productive” GOL made 2 more contests (the 1st one is over) :
1. The first user to reach 50 posts will win a full retail copy of Eschalon Book 2 !!! (ended)
2. On September the 25th GOL will choose a random regular posting member of the forum to win Amnesia : The Dark Descent .

So with those prizes, what are you waiting for ?
Register at the forums and start posting !

Erm, HappyPenguin.org and LGDB has forums.. And then, like you’ve mentioned, almost any general linux based forum has a sub forum for gaming, and every one of them are pretty quiet

  2. Maxim Bardin says:

“…and every one of them are pretty quiet”
That’s what we want to change, there are some GNU/Linux gaming forums, but they are not active.
With the prizes offered we hope that things will improve, if they won’t – then I don’t know what else to do (other then offer 1 Million USD 😉 ).
While I am not involved with GOL’s forums personally, I like the idea and I truly hope that it will be successful.

  3. Liam Dawe says:

Happy Penguin forums are extremely inactive not to mention their news posts are always waay behind.

Like Maxim said it’s something i hope to change, besides you don’t have to join – that’s why we all love Linux isn’t it? For freedom of choice the GOL Forum is free, i give out prizes and i myself am active in the community.

No one has to join – it’s a simple choice do..or do not as yoda says.

  4. Hamish Paul Wilson says:

The LGDB forums seem to be mostly for people to comment on the website more than anything else and Happy Penguin is a bit antiquated. I can see the need for the what Liam is proposing here.
